The Sterilite Corporation, a manufacturer and distributor of plastic housewares, selected Clinton, South Carolina and Davenport, Iowa for their new facilities to better serve its southeastern markets. The Sterilite facility in Clinton consists of four buildings totaling over 2.4 million square feet. This includes approximately 200,000 square feet of manufacturing, 200,000 square feet of work in progress, and 2,000,000 square feet of warehouse space. The manufacturing portion of the facility includes pneumatic conveying systems to deliver raw materials to a wide range of injection molding machines and a central cooling system to provide cooling water to process equipment.
The site is 253 acres and is served by rail for the receipt of plastic pellets used in the manufacturing process. Approximately 8,000 linear feet of rail track was constructed for the lead spur and for storage of 50 rail cars on the site. In Davenport, Iowa Sterilite’s facility stands at 2.5 million square feet and sits on 160 acres. The building is comprised of areas for manufacturing, work-in-process, and storage.
